IDM and View Pool Permissions with AD Groups
Hi All,
I am running up a PoC with Horizon View and IDM. We have had View running for some time now but only just started to play with IDM to test it capabilities.
We typically have our RDSH and View permissions granted by AD group membership.
I am having some trouble whereby in IDM I have it synchronizing the selected AD groups, and also the View pools but membership entitlements are not showing.
Only one of my AD groups is showing entitlements to it but no other is.
I've moved some of the pools into the root access group in View but that has not made any difference either.
Any idea on what could be stopping the groups to be entitled to the View and RDSH pools? Anything that I should be looking out for?
Thanks
VMware remote console
I have VCSA 6.0.0 3040890 and VMRC 8.0 3250412
If I click the black box the host connection times out. But if I click the link below the box I get connnected
to my linux VM. When I was at class I could just click the black box.

suddenly can't ping ESXI 6 server
I came in and have no communication with my vm's running in esxi. I connected a monitor to the physical server to see if it was online and it was so I tested management network and its not pinging the default gateway. I checked the physical cable unplugged and reconnected tried again and still failed. I restarted the physical server and still no ping?? What do I check for? Has anyone had this issue? I can't communicate with the server so the vm's can't be reached.
VMware Tools and Virtual Hardware
Hi,
We are currently running ESXi 5.1 Update1 and are planning to upgrade to ESXi 6.0 update 1.
On our existing ESXi 5.1 environment, we have several machines that we have never upgraded the VMware Tools and virtual hardware on.
When we upgrade to ESXi 6.0 update 1, is it okay to then upgrade the virtual hardware and VMware tools at that stage, or do I need to initially upgrade them whilst they are still on ESXi 5 host and then again when the VM moves to the new ESXi 6 host.
Cheers
Does VIO 2.0 support vlan (tenant_network_types) under VDS?
I installed VIO 2.0 under VDS. I want to set tenant_network_types=vlan, but I don't know default tenant network type? does VIO 2.0 support?
if it supports, what do I to do?
Thank.
VMware migration from client's DC to my company's DC
Hi, I would like to get some input about the VMware migration.
Background: My client changed their vendor to my company and currently they have few ESX4.1 & 5.1 in the vendor DC. Now we will not able to purchase/transfer those esx and we need to build new ESX and perform the migration.
So i would like to ask gentlemen's idea any key steps and consideration/dependencyi need to take note? Please share your opinions and much appreciated.
can a VM be created in esxi5.5 from the necessary esxi4.0 VM files?
ie from the .vmdk, .vmx files or do you need to use eg the vmware converter?
Thanks
Michael
Fusion 8.1 Pro and ESXi 6
Even when I select "VMWare ESXi 6.x" as the OS type, I cannot successfully perform an install to a VM under Fusion 8.1 Pro. ESXi reports "No Network Adapters." Anyone have any workarounds or other information? Seems pretty boneheaded to have ESXi as an install option yet not support it.
In case you're wondering, yes, I do indeed have network interfaces in the VM.
Update Manager - Image Profile Unknown
Hi all,
I recently tried up patch my ESXi 5.1 with the latest patches using Update Manager. Everything was working well until one of my hosts fails with the updates and I cant patch it. I noticed that the Image Profile is now at "<Unknown - no profile defined>
How can I correct this? I patched 10 other hosts in this cluster and this one does not want to be patched.
What can I do?
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

Easier way to add SSD Drive Type
Hello,
We are running vSphere 5.5.0 Build 2183111 and ESXi 5.5.0 Build 2143827 Update 2. Connected via FC is a NetApp FAS-2240 with one shelf of SSD drives. We have presented LUNs to vSphere and they show as Non-SSD and to get them to show as SSD, so we gain the performance increase, we have this list of commands to run through
~# esxcli storage nmp satp rule add --satp=VMW_SATP_ALUA --device naa.60a9800042393376512b47314a745136 --option "enable_ssd"
~ # esxcli storage core claiming unclaim --type=device --device naa.60a9800042393376512b47314a745136
~ # esxcli storage core claimrule load
~ # esxcli storage core claimrule run
~ # esxcli storage core claiming reclaim -d naa.60a9800042393376512b47314a745136
now we have to do this on every host and for every LUN we want to be presented as SSD to vSphere and ESXi. Question is this, can this process be simplified any way?
TIA,
JIm
Unable to complete installation of Ubuntu 15.10 64 bit - Installation wizard screen cut off
Hi,
I recently bought vmware Fusion Pro 8 and I am trying to install Ubuntu 15.10 on my late 2013 MBP Retina running OS X El Capitan. The installation wizard display seems to be cut off, and I am unable to progress through the wizard to continue the installation. I reach to the Keyboard Layout step in the wizard, and the wizard page is only partially seen concealing the Continue button to progress to the next step.
I have tried going fullscreen, expanding the window - but nothing seems to correct the problem. Ubuntu or Fusion seems to be misinterpreting the window resolution.
What do I need to do to solve this? I've tried Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and that shows the same problem as well.
Thanks,
Sankar
License Upgrade Question
Hello. We have 2 ESX 4.0 U2 hosts that are now obsolete, but still powered up. The license used on them was downgraded from ESXi 5 Enterprise to ESX 4.0 Enterprise. We need to upgrade that license..... back
to 5.0. We see how to do that through My VMware License Keys. Do the old hosts need to be powered down first before we do the license upgrade and remove the licenses from them ? Would removing the hosts from
inventory remove the association of the ESX 4.0 key so that we can upgrade it to 5.0 and apply to the newer hosts we just built ? Thanks in advance.
Export vcenter Roles and Folder Permissions
Hi
I'm using Gabe's cheap disaster recovery script to export the folder perms but when I checked to see If it exported all the folders in my vCenter there seems to be some folders missing.. At first I thought maybe the account I was using to export didn't have the administrator role or the role didn't propagate down to the missing folders but after checking that was not the case.

Vmware 5.5 to 6 upgrade issue VPXD or VimPBSM
Has any one seen this issue when upgrading 5.5 to 6.0 u1. Looks like upgrade almost completes but then stop at Failed to stop Service VPxd. it looks to be around import of the 5.5 config to 6. When this happened you have to restore you system.
I also tried an older version GA and got a different error Failed to stop service vimPBSM.
I have been working with support but we hit the wall on finding a fix waiting to hear back.

AppVols upgrade to 2.10 "NTLM Authentication failed for: Domain\user. Virtualization is disabled"
Hi,
Last night we upgraded from 2.9 to 2.10, tested and tested as much as we could and were happy so went live. This morning users (and myself!) are reporting that upon login you receive the error and no stacks get attached. Logging out and back in again occasionally fixes the issue but at the moment it is not consistent at all. Very close to rolling back but I'd rather go forwards!
Error:

I have El Capitan 10.11.2 running on VMWare Workstation Pro. I have been told to reset the NVRAM by booting "my mac" while holding Command+Option+P+R. I can't seem to figure it using VMWare.
Can anyone help?
Solution for a High School Lab
Hello,
I am a high school teacher setting up a cyber security lab. We need to able able to deploy various machines at a time. Our ninth grade students will be configuring machines with Win 7, Win 8.1, Win 10, Server 08, Server 12, Redhat, and Ubuntu servers and O/S (about 1.5 to 2 gb per machine). Additionally, upper classman will be working on virtualized networks of multiple machines and pentesting (2-3 machines at 2gb each). My intention was to use ESXi, after speaking to a representative from VMware, he suggested that I use Horizon. Until that discussion I haven't even heard of Horizon. My question to the group is what is your experience with Horizon in this type of application and what is the best way to earn this.
I have purchased a small server (Dell Poweredge R710 with dual quad core cpu's, 32gb/cpu and two set of hard drive, 2 300gb 15k and 2 at 1TB). I also have several routers and switches (working on CCNA also).
I understand that you may need more information but I am trying to determine how many servers like the one described above am I going to need to service 20-40 students per class period. Part of the challenge is that I am not well versed in this area, so I have to learn it, work it, sell it to district personnel and be able to deploy on September 1, 2016.
I look forward to your feedback and thank you in advance.
Peter
