Running a Windows 10 client on Mac OSX 10.11 El Capitan - yes, I know I'm asking for trouble running a beta OS on a beta OS but this is not a mission-critical machine...

After installing OSX 10.11, cannot access the VM with the error

Cannot open the disk '/Users/David/Library/Application Support/VMWare Fusion/Virtual Machines/Boot Camp/Boot Camp 3.vmwarevm/Boot Camp 3.vmdk' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on.Module Disk power on failed.  Failed to start the virtual machine'.

Running the Windows machine from Boot Camp works fine.

Any ideas to fix or do I just have to wait for Win 10, El Cap or VMWare to catch up?

I have created two VMs:

VM1 is running Windows Server 2008

VM2 is running W7.

The host machine is running W7 with VMware Workstation 11.

Both guest machines are using NAT and I have changed the VMnet8 to use 192.168.205.0

VM1 (Server) Static IP:

192.168.205.1

255.255.255.0

192.168.205.1 and tried without a gateway

192.168.205.1

VM2 (Client) Static IP:

192.168.205.101

255.255.255.0

192.168.205.1 and tried without a gateway

192.168.205.1

My desired end result is that both VMs have access to the internet and access to each other for testing a client/server environment.

It seems I can get them to network successfully, but no internet.

Also at some point I will assign the VM1 as a DHCP Server, but I'm worried that is will cause a conflict with the VMware's DHCP. Will I be able to disable the VMware's DHCP and use my VM1 (server) as the DHCP Server, and still have internet access?

But it seems i can not make it quite well.

Let me first describe what i have and what i want to achieve.

I have HP Proliat Dl160 g6 with two lan cards.

My ISP is porviding the connection to the internet only with PPPOE connection and i have to set up a virtual router so i can establish an PPPOE connection.

Then when the connection to the internet is achieved i have to make this connection as main for the physical host / the server.

Right now i am connecting to the ESXi host via my local network. I have two networks purchased from my IPS.

The first one i use for home purposes and it is connected to the ISP via external(real machine) router. The second one will be only for the server and i have to create a virtual router so it may connect to the internet via PPPOE connection.

Let me first show you my settings in the Networking panel:

Do i have to make any vLan settings and how ?

Do i have to set up any physical adapet ?

Here are my pfSense settings for WAN and LAN for which i am completely sure i have messed up hard.

Please can you help me out ?

My question is regarding the change in physical CPUs licensed for ESXi 6. If my memory doesn't fail me ESXi 5.5 was licensed for 2 physical CPUs (we have dual CPUs in our DC), and we started to upgrade some of them to 6.0. Now after entering the ESXi license we noticed a small (and big) difference in what it says it's licensed for...

Someone please tell me they just made a mistake, because if they did, it's an unfortunate step back in my opinion =/  (and we will have to keep 5.5 in our servers)

What exactly is vLan ?

Does it mean when i set an vLan id of network for the ESXi host the host will use that network as a main to connect to the internet ?

I am asking this because i can connect to the internet only with PPPOE connection but the ESXi host can not and i have to set up a virtual router which i think will connect to the internet with PPPOE connection and then the ESXi host will use this connection via vLan option.

Am i right ?

Question:  If Datacore is thin provisioned (storage layer), and VM's are thin provisioned (VMWare layer); is there an issue if:

•     A VM is thick provisioned and then thin provisioned back?

I have heard there is a concern that if this is done, there is lost storage at the storage layer?

Has anyone run across this or heard of it before?  I was told under these circumstances a process needs to be run at the storage layer to "RECLAIM," the storage after a process like this.

Any insight you may have on this is greatly appreciated.

I am currently running Windows 7 with Parallels on Mac OS X 10.10.3 (Yosemite).  This is on a 2012 macbook Pro.  I am trialling Fusion 7.   I ran Fusion for years back in the V3/4 days.  Switched to Parallels for some reason I don't recall and now reviewing that decision.

I backup sensitive data to a truecrypt container on a shared disk.  Sometimes the backup works and other times not.  Usually, if I dismount and remount the container it will work.  I have tried saving a file to the container and then deleting it.  I sometimes get file handle error on the delete, but it ends up deleting.  I vaguely remember having a similar problem in my past that was resolved.  This works perfectly on Parallels.  Sorry for so few details.

Everything else seems to work seamlessly, albeit, I perceive a little slower.

experts, when i try VDS setting, it happen like this, can i still press next.

will i loss the server connection , please advise, what i can do next

my setting is  , one host and one physically network card , i want to create the VDS first and then later to add more host to VDS

This will usually follow a re-boot of the host machine, running Windows Server 2012.

I can then REMOVE the machine(s)

And open the .vmx file from the file manager ...

After which I can again share the file.

What can I do to prevent this?  Has anyone else seen the problem?

Hello everybody,

I have created a linked clone blueprint on my vCAC 6 infrastructure and I have created 2 storage reservation policies. Basically, one on SATA drives and one on SAS drives.

My master VM which served to the blueprint creation is stored on SATA drives. I can deploy this blueprint on SATA drives (using the custom property :VirtualMachine.Disk0.StorageReservationPolicy) without any problems but when I specify my SAS StorageReservationPolicy, I get the following error message : "Request Failed: Machine maq-033: CloneVM : Failed to clone VM maq-033 : Cannot recommend placement for SDRS operation clone, reason code: storagePlacement".

I tried switching SDRS on manual mode, deactivating SDRS but I get the the same message.

Any suggestions?

My ESXi server has been hacked - i foolishly left the SSH server on (i forgot) - that is if that is how they got in.

At the root of every disk there is a folder called -HACKED- which i am unable to enter and it seems like something has been done with all the disk files, i say that because the disks seem to have the same amount of data used as if the disk files were there, but as they are either deleted or no longer in the location the vm needs to run, all the vm are currently offline.

i cannot enter the -HACKED- folder (i did not try too hard as i wanted to bring the machine offline. as "cd -HACKED-" tells me that -H is not a flag.. "'cd -HACKED-'" does not work either.

I have a call from vmware scheduled for monday AM, but if anyone else has seen this kind of vandalism - or perhaps it is ransom type activity - i do not know, i guess i am feeling my way round this as i have never had to clean up an ESXi machine before, only linux and windows.

So any thoughts - ideas - anything - i am busy moving backups to other machines - but i have not got 100% backup coverage so am really interested to see if there is anything i can do.

In order to do routine maintenance on any OS, (especially Windows variations) one has to be able to type during the boot process. However, VMware Workstation 10 is preventing that on my PC. Host is Windows 8 pro, multiple guest VMs, but I can't type ESC or Function keys either during BIOS start, or OS start (ie. F8 for safe mode, and any key if booting to a windows install/repair CD / DVD / ISO).

There has to be a solution.The keyboard works fine in the host, fully loaded guest, and even when I power on to BIOS.

If help is in the VMware KB I haven't found the magic keywords yet to find it. So if anyone has encountered this and has a fix I would appreciate your help.

I have an OId WindowsXP Machine which has 5 Dedicated Network Connections on a number of NIC Cards & one Internal Ethernet Connection. These Network Connections have Dedicated assigned IP Address's...The WindowsXP PC is now showing it's age & I need to Migrate it to a VM, as I need to run some dedicated Software, which will only Run on XP.

I have Built a Windows 7 Pro Machine, with the Right Number of Network Ports Installed with Dedicated NIC's & a one Internal Ethernet Connection.

My Question is hopefully Simple to Answer!!! What is the Best Way to make Sure that the Original IP Address's are retained, Do I Configure the New Physical NIC's on the Windows 7 PC to the OLD WindowsXP IP Address's & let the Virtual NIC's just Tunnel through to these NIC's??

I have used the Latest VM Standalone Converter to "Clone" the WindowsXP Machine & It has correctly Identified All the NIC's required, So I have ATM just left the settings in "Bridged" for the 5 Ethernet Ports, Is this the Correct setting?

I have just finished taking the "VMware vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage [V5.5]" course, and am looking into taking the exam for certification in the near future. The issue being, I'm particularly unskilled when it comes to self-driven study. I'm a bit better when I have a list of questions and explanations for the right answers to tackle (easier to set goals and see progress I suppose?), so I was looking into some suggestions other students in the course had made, mainly TestKing and MeasureUp. This has lead to many posts pointing out the poor quality of such tools, but also to an announcement about 6 months ago where MeasureUp was declared the "Official Practice Test Provider" for VMware. Most of the posts warning of the poor quality of similar resources are dated well before this time, and I've not found one that mentions MeasureUp specifically.

So...anyone know how well this particular resource holds up? I'd hate to find out after paying (or worse, after failing to certify) that the practice was no good. Normally I would go with the safe move of working only off the blueprint, but I know myself well enough to realize that I would do better with a (well-constructed and up to date) practice exam resource if available.

Any other tips you want to give are appreciated as well, of course. For now I'll work from my textbook and the blueprint to get started as best I can.

We have a PoC with 3 Esxi host, we have install Esxi 5.5u2, the Vcenter is the last version of Appliance release.

After the configuration of all requirments, ad for do this we have respect the Vsan PoC Guide, the automatical registration of vsan storage provider not works.

I have do the manual but only for the Master Host this is end correctly.

I'm working on installing a ViewPlanner benchmark environment, ViewPlanner 3.5 local.

I created the GoldenRDSH desktop and Viewplanner appliance, without AD.

I used Windows 7 32bit as my desktop and installed Office (2010..) and all the needed apps and tools.

Managed to do the check option, and there are no issues/errors.

However, when i do the Run phase, it fails on the "Connect-Start-Workload".
