Problems with ESXi Availability in Hyperic

Hello

 

We just deployed our first Hyperic system. So far no problem.

 

We installed the Hyperic Agent on all our Windows-based vCenter Server. Now we see all ESXi Hosts connected to this vCenters and Virtual Machines deployed on this vCenter.

All vCenter server are green with 100% Availability, but some of the ESXi host have 0% Availability and are red. All ESXi hosts are in the same network and are configured identically.

 

I have no idea what the problem is. How can I troubleshoot this?

No Connection to VR Server : Unknown

Hi all,

 

I have a problem about vSphere Replication Appliance.

 

Last week I have Installed a new one VR on vCenter and configured database with existing VR database. All virtual machines replications has stopped. When I attempt to make "Sync Now" I received the following error;

All machines seems to be healthy on monitor screen but Last sync size value does not appear.

I reinstalled vSphere Replication again and configured database with existing but nothing has changed. I tried to move virtual machine to other VR, but i recieved same error as in the first picture.

 

"No Connection to VR Server : Unknown" error appears on summary page on vCenter for each virtual machine.

 

What is your opinion ?

How to create a NFS 4.1 datastore without vCenter?

I have a disk-less ESXi 6.0 server and a storage server. In order to deploy vCenter, I need to create NFS v4.1 datastore first. The problem is that I need a vCenter to do this. Is there a way to create a NFS datastore before I install vCenter?

How to throttle Storage vMotion bandwith?

I am migrating one large VM (2TB+) from older storage (CX4) to new storage (VNX 5200). When I try to SvMotion it,users notice dramatic performance drop on VM. I suspect that is because new storage is much faster and CX4 is struggling to keep up.

Is there a way to throttle back Storage vMotion? Note that both SANs are Fibre Channel.

Hello,

 

One of our hosts has pumped out this message 100s of times to our syslog server, what does it mean, I'm not even sure what vol13 is as I'm not a SSH/CLi person really:

Unmount datastore when change EMC AX Storage failover mode

Hi,

 

Currently we found that the failover mode in EMC AX is 4, but according to EMC support, AX only support failover mode: 1. Thus, EMC support recommend to change it. They highly recommended to have the data store/volumes unmounted (after VM vmotion to another ESX) from the ESX host before changing the failover mode. After that, host must be rebooted


Current Environment:

1. One cluster with six vSphere 4.1 (ESX01-ESX06)

2. Totally 35 VM in this cluster

3. 7 x Datastore


My planning is:

1. Move all VM out from ESX01 to the rest of  five ESX (ESX02-ESX06)

2. Configure EMC AX failover mode to 1

3. Reboot ESX01

4. Bring up ESX01, and verify all datastore still able to access

5. Continue ESX02-ESX06 from step 1-5

 

My question now is: how and where should I do "Unmount datastore" which was recommended by EMC support? Is it a must to do?

 

I have done some research, but I found that if I need to unmount datastore then i need to make the datastore become inactive. Am i right? If datastore inactive, doesnt means that the datastore inactive in all ESX?

 

VMware KB: Removing a LUN containing a datastore from VMware ESXi/ESX 4.0 and 4.1

 

Any suggestion for my planning? Hope can get answer from Vmware expert at here. Thanks alot.

Cannot use vmrun to start a virtual machine on RedHat 6.5: Error: The operation was canceled.

I tried to start the virtual machine on my RedHat 6.5 instance (under AWS EC2): /usr/bin/vmrun -T ws start /path/to/myWindows.vmx nogui

I got the error: Error: The operation was canceled.

Here is what I have set up: I created an instance RedHat 6.5 64bit in AWS EC2. In that instance, I installed "VMware-Workstation-Full-11.0.0-2305329.x86_64.bundle". In Windows platform, I used VMWare Workstation 11 to create a VM, which was transferred to the RedHat6.5 64bit instance. Then, I ran the command and it failed. Could please point to me any problem in my steps?  Thanks a lot!!

Health Analyzer with vSphere 6 fails - A runtime error occurred during collection

Did something change with vSphere 6 that breaks Health Analyzer?  I'm using the latest 5.0.4.1.  After starting a new project and adding the appropriate credentials in vCenter Server Discovery, it asks me for the resources to scan.  I check all the boxes and
click next.  It thinks about it for a moment and then returns - A runtime error occurred during collection.   Of course this worked just fine under vSphere 5.x.

 

Any ideas?

Un-Mounting Datastore from a Host

Un-mounting a Datastore from the Esxi Host

 

 

 

1. Obtaining the NAA ID of the LUN to be removed

 

 

 

This can be obtanined by the Property window of the Datastore

 

 

esx05-->configuration-->storage-->Hus-VM-FC04-->naa.<---------------------------01>

 

 

we can also get this from the command prompt

 

# esxcli storage vmfs extent list

 

 

 

2.in the Configuration tab of the ESXi host, click Storage. Right-click the datastore Hus-VM-FC04 being removed, and click Unmount.

 

 

 

3. Right-click the NAA ID of the LUN (as noted above) and click Detach.

 

 

 

4.A Confirm Device Unmount window is displayed. When the prerequisite criteria have been passed, click OK.

 

 

 

5. Verify the lun was ditached successfully

 

 

 

6..Confirm if the LUN is successfully detached

 

 

 

7. Perform a re scan on on all esxi host that the lun was visible to

VMware converter states "The source parameters are invalid"

I am using version 6.0.0 build 2716716 of the VMware vcenter Converter Standalone client.

 

I am trying to convert a Storagecraft Shadowprotect (build version v5.2.0.36537) image of a desktop computer backup to a VM for Workstation 11.1. However when I try to load the image into the converter I get the

error "The source parameters are invalid". The images are not bad. I have 10 other computers that run Shadowprotect and I can restore that image to any of those computers using the Shadowprotect

restore. If I try reading any of those images I get the same results. I opened a support ticket with VMware and the tech for the converter support said he had to transfer me to the Vmware Workstation support team. This has nothing to do with the Workstation since the converter program can't even accept the .spf files.The computer this images came from has already been re-purposed so I can't restore it back and do a powered on conversion.

Can someone help me?

recover NTFS volume after I installed vshpere 5.5

Being new to ESXi I installed vSphere 5.5 wiping out a windows 2012 server.  I had a D: NTFS volume that had some data I would like to get.  Is there a way to get at it now that I installed vSphere 5.5?

Vmware Hypervisor 6.0 failed atempts

I was trying to install Vmware Hypervisor 6.0 the free version on "Dell XPS 8700” that has Windows 8.

---------------

First attempt:

1- I downloaded EXSI ISO image from:

https://my.vmware.com/group/vmware/evalcenter?p=free-esxi6

2- I created an installation from USB using diskpart.

3- I booted from USB and got this message: "No network adaptor"

Second attempt:

1- I looked for my network adaptor:

Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller

driver version: 8.18.621.2013

2- I googled my problem and found out that I need to create a customized ISO and used this way:

I downloaded the VIB there

VMware_bootbank_net-r8168_8.013.00-3vmw.510.0.0.799733.vib


3- I created the customized ISO and copied it to USB and reboot.

4- It gave me the following message:

Error:

Could not obtain module order from esx image db ...

The installation profile could not be validated due to the following error...

5- Then it tries to reboot the machine unsuccessfully

6- I restart the machine manually and it gave me the massage:

BANK5: not a VMware boot bank
BANK6: not a VMware boot bank

No hypervisor found.

I have the following Questions:

1- What is the correct ISO that I have to use?

2- Do I have to create a customized ISO? if yes what VIB should I use?

3- How to solve my current problem?

VIO Icon is not showing up in the vSphere Web Client, Possible networking issue

Good morning all. I am currently attempting to set up Openstack on top of VMware using VIO. I have been following the instructions here:

Everything was going fine until I launched the vApp for VIO. The icon never showed up. The management vm that is powered on says "NO NETWORKING DETECTED". I have no idea what the problem is or if these two issues are even related. I followed all the instructions, including placing all of my hosts on the same VDS. Any hints as to what went wrong?

ESXi 5.1 hosts nics does not show LLDP information though LLDP is enabled on the DVS switch.

DVS switch nics not showing LLDP information even after enabling it.  For some host it is working and for some it is not  in all sites.  I observed that if the nic driver is  be2net then it is not working in most of the cases.  And for the bnx2 driver it is working fine.  Can anyone suggess what could be the issue and its resoloution .? Thanks in advance

Redundância de Hosts ESXi

olá,

gostaria de tirar uma dúvida com relação a redundância.

Tenho um servidor HP com o ESXi 5.5, ele tem 4 placas de rede, 2 estão conectadas em um switch e as outras 2 em outro switch. O problema é só tenho comunicação por uma das placas, as outras 3 estão em stand by.

Se eu desligar um dos switches, perco comunicação com o servidor momentaneamente, até outra placa assumir a comunicação.

O problema é que se eu perder comunicação com o switch onde está conectada a placa que está ativa, perco comunicação tambem com o servidor, pois para o vsphere a placa de rede continua ativa, ou seja, enquanto o switch estiver ligado e o cabo de rede conectado, aquela placa de rede continua ativa.

 

Quais seriam as configurações corretas de placa de rede?
