WS 11: obsolete list of snapshots by using remote connection

$

Hi all,

I'm using workstation 11 for windows, mainly remote connection to some remote server (in WS: File - Connect to Server).

But there is some bug (or feature) with snapshots.

When I'm connected to some vmware machine, there exists some list of snapshots (Snapshot Manager, CTRL+M). If I created some new snapshot (and I waited for finishing of snapshot), the list of snapshots was still the same (not updated) .

If I want to see (revert) new snapshot in list of snapshots, so I have to close tab with this machine and open again.

Is it bug or feature?

With this state you can't do any second day operations. Is it somehow possible to change this state of a VM without deleting the machine?

iaas-service not getting registered after upgrading vCenter 5.5u2 to 6.0

hiho

I recently migrated my test environment to another vCenter becuase we had some problems with the test environment.

we had Vra set up and running in the first vcenter, and then we moved our (Virtual)hosts into a new vCenter.

everything seems to be working except that the iaas-service not getting registered, this results in us getting a ERROR 404 when logging into our vra tenant

All the services on the iaas virtual machine that should be running are running, and from that VM we can reach the vra appliance and the sql server.

we reconfigured SSO with the new URL to identity appliance and that reports connected.

What i'm looking for is the next step in troubleshooting this, is there any other places we would have to change the URL to vcenter?

our first vCenter was version 5.5u2 and the new one is 6.0, does that have any inpact on where to look for errors?

this is how it looks in the vra applieance manager:
services.PNG

and sso:

SSO.PNG

and here is the service list of the iaas VM:

Irregular Reboot of SBS 2011 VM

Good Moring Guys,

We have a HP ProLiant ML350 G9 with VMware vSphere 6 Essentials on it.Two VMs are running on this Hosts. Both VMs are converted from a previous Hyper V Host. One VM is a Server 2008 R2 (Ex Hyper V Host) and the other one is a Small Business Server 2011 (Ex Hyper V Guest). The problem now is, that the Small Business Server 2011 VM (SBS) does some randomly restarts without any reasons. In the Eventlog from the VM I can see the Message "Das Gastbetriebssyste dieser VM ist ausgefallen" or in English: The guest OS has stopped working. Then I have to restart the VM and everything runs fine for some hours or even a day. In the VM Log Files i can't find any error messages, it only shows "vmx| I120: GuestRpcSendTimedOut: message to toolbox-dnd timed out.".

The other strange thing is, that when I install the VMware tools, the Guest Operationssystem automaticly changes to Windows 7 instead of Server 2008. If i deinstall or deactivate the tools then the VM is correctly regognized as Server 2008. Is this some kind of bug in ESX 6.0? Because we have a similiar environment (SBS 2011) which runs on a esx 5.5, and there is the VM correctly configured as Server 2008 when the VMware Tools are installed....

I'm really puzzled, cause the other Server (Server 2008) which also runs on this Host runs fine without any problems...

I'd be very glad if someone have some inputs for this problem...

The following steps I've already done:

- Reinstall VMware Tools -> The Guest OS changed again to Windows 7

- Deactivate VMware Tools -> The reboots are also happening

- Changed the PowerSaving Options (Windows settings as also VMware settings) to max power, deactivated the power saving options -> no change

Cheers

Outlook 2010 on App Volumes using Writable Drive

$

Hi Community,

My VDI users are suffering terribly with Outlook 2010 using Online Mode. Outlook freezing, pausing, poor searching, calendar updates etc etc. I know its Exchange 2010 back end related as the CPU and Memory are sitting under 20% utilisation and disk is 0.01% latency.

As my environment is non persistent having Outlook Cached Mode has always been out of the question but since purchasing App Volumes I've had the thought of delivering Outlook through App Volumes with a writable disk to store the OST file from Cached Mode.

This way OST files will persist through sessions and be local to the VDI for cached mode.

Has anyone got any thoughts and or experience they can bring to the table such as gotchas or extra config? e.g. Will be OST be created on the Writable Drive straight away or will it want to default to the VDI's vmdk file instead?

Move from Windows vCenter to appliance

$

I've been putting off making this change. I know there are no migration tools to change from Windows vCenter to the appliance, but I need to find out what settings I need to document for the change. My plan:

- Run Update Mgr on all hosts

- Remove the hosts from the current vcenter

- Down the vcenter server

- Log into one of the hosts via the web client

- Deploy the vcenter appliance using the ova file

- Create the datacenter and clusters with the same names I had before (just to keep it simple; I know )

- Connect the hosts to the appropriate clusters

- Configure HA and DRS

I have the HA and DRS settings documented. Networking is configured on the host, so no need to document that, right? Am I missing anything, or does anyone see a problem with my plan?

Thanks.

Hi there, i have a problem with installed Office 2013.

Microsoft Dynamics NAV packed with Thinapp 5.1.1

- Set Entries in Package.ini

VirtualizeExternalOutOfProcessCOM=0

ChildProcessEnvironmentExceptions=WINWORD.EXE;EXCEL.EXE;POWERPNT.EXE;OUTLOOK.EXE;MOC.EXE;DXPLORER.EXE

ChildProcessEnvironmentDefault=Virtual

When i use the Export-Function in MS Dynamics NAV (use MS Word for example) starts the Installer for Office 2013. After a few seconds the installer close and Word starts.
When i use the same Function on a system with installed Office 2010 everthing is fine and the installed Application starts.

Can somebody help me?

Need Help!! Cannot access hosts via vcenter, webclient or directly using vsphere client. ESXi 5.5

Hi everyone,

yesterday morning I had a VM switch itself off after a failed back up using VDP 5.8.

I tried to turn it back on and got an error -14 (broken pipe)

I tried a few things with this VM like changing hosts and changing datastore but I kept getting the same error no matter what I did.

All of a sudden both my hosts (I have 2 in the cluster) became "not responding" and all the VMs were showing as "disconnected"

I am not able to manage any of the VMs.

I tried restarting the Vcenter several times and restarting the managment network on each host.

nothing has changed.

I tried using my local vsphere client to directly access the hosts using the local root admin account but I get an error saying 503: server unavailable

I enabled SSH on both hosts and I seem to be able to log in but if I try to do a simple command such as listing the VMs I get an error saying once again 503 service unavailable.

when running a managment network test on the hosts they ping all services OK

HAS anyone encountered this sort of behaviour before?

Appvolumes version 2.9

VMware View PLanner 3.5 can you add multiple NICs

$

Hi all

Is it possible to add a second NIC to VMware View planner version 3.5

The reason for asking is that in my environment I have two networks

Public Network -- This is where vcenter server resides and all the associate severs (hosts 1-4)

Private Horizon Network -- this is where all the Horizon Infrastrucutre resides (AD,DNS, DHCP) and the like

When I configure the OVA I configure one IP address so if I configure it for Public Network it can see the Horizon Private Network and vice versa

Is it possibe to configure View Planner so that it can access both networks?

If so can you please let me know how its done

Many thanks

Tadhg

Microsoft Office 2013 AppStack

I'm running App Volumes 2.7 and I'm having an issue with Office 2013.  The capture goes just fine.  I follow the steps on pages 39 and 40 of app-volumes-27-users-guide.pdf.  The install licenses with KMS... all looks good.  However, when I have a user sign in and launch an office application it runs through a Configuration Process.  After it configures, all works fine but if the user sign out and back in it does it all over again.  Anyone know what I am doing wrong?

vsphere 6 e 5.5

Execute a Workflow upon the Rejection of the Request

Hi,

I am currently working on the approvals in vRA.  Through vRO, we create the entitlements and approval policies on the fly depending on who should be the approvers of the request.  This is all working fine so far, but I would like to know how we could setup a workflow to run if the request gets rejected by the approver.  The plan is to do a cleanup of the entitlements and the approval policies in this workflow in case the request gets rejected.  Is there a way to do this through vRO?

Thanks in advance!

Very slow acces to datastores on HP MIcroserver Gen8. Can't edit System Resource Reservation with vSphere client.

I performed a clean install of ESXi 6 with provided HP image (ESXi-6.0.0-2494585-HP-600.9.1.39-Mar2015).
Access to and from datastores over network through vSphere Client (6.0.0-2502222) is very slow - ~10 Mbps (  there are several hundreds under ESXi 5.5)
I'm suspecting that ESXi 6 limits CPU resources used by host system to 230 MHz.
I can't edit "System Resource Reservation" parameters (contrary to ESXi 5.5, where I can edit them and switch to Simple or Advanced view).

Windows server restarts unexpexcted in ESXi 5.5

Windows server restarts unexpexcted so I captured logs on my ESXi 5.5 server.

Event viewer of VM shows these 2 last messages:

  • "VMCI: using capabilities" (0xc), event id 3, type information
  • "the previous system shutdown at 13:05:19 on 01/06/2015 was unexpected", event id 6008, type error

I'm not able to understand if vm reset itself or if there is soft shutdown, I think it's a reset system because I don't see logs about shutting of all service before 6008 event.

Among Windows log and vmware.log there is difference of 2 hours

Vmware.log of vm shows:

I note this behaviour in event viewer but I can't know what is happening. I think there is no blue screen otherwise vm would keep this state until manual reset of vSphere user.

This problem occurs sporadically.

Can you suggest me how to debug this problem?

VGPU session disconnects with pcoip_server_win32.exe NvFBC.dll

I'm running a proof of concept VGPU VDI using Horizon 6.1 and Vsphere 6

I only have 8 VDI test users and the solution is running over the LAN.

A couple of users have reported session disconnects and when I've checked the event logs on the clients (windows 7 64 bit) the below are entries.

The users can reconnect to the session almost immediately and no work is lost.

I'm running some Autodesk products (Revit, Navisworks, etc) on linked clones and so far the results have been very good and this is the only slight niggle.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Server down, space issue, stuck at 99% and I'm screwed...

So our Virtual server crashed. The guy that set it up has left the country.  I'm an IT guy but pretty thin on VMware, but I can tell you we have Vsphere 4.1 and I'm able to get into the console. Several other servers are all up and running fine.  This one just won't do anything.  Everything is greyed out since I tried to delete an old Snapshot.  Sitting at the glorious 99%   For about an hour now.  Sure it could take forever. But worse, they're could be more problems when and if it does finish!  And people will be arriving for work in about 3 hours.  Somebody, anybody please help!  Very appreciative and greatful for any help or direction anyone can give me.  Thanks in advance.

Also, found an error in the log that says "Cannot power on Fileserver blahblah01.  A general system error occurred.  No related events.  :-/
