Skyline advisor not reporting findings and recommendations after enabling on new org.

Hello

 

We had an old org with skyline advisor enabled and collector registered to it. i could see all my findings and recommendations on this org. We recently enabled skyline advisor on a new org, de-registered collector and re-registered it with the new org., I had a case open with VMWare and they helped me do this. The old org has since been deleted. This advisor is not showing any findings or recommendations. The Findings field in dashboard reports "There is no findings available for this account". Collector shows the inventory is healthy and each of the vCenters and VROPS showing a successful upload. If data is being uploaded successfully, why are there no findings? It has been 4 days since the Collector was registered to new advisor. Would appreciate advice from anyone that has seen this. Thanks!

Hyper-v Gen2 VM to VMware

Hi Team,

I am trying to migrate the Hyper-V Generation 2 VM (windows server 2016, 2019 OS) to VMWare. I have used StarWind and Vmware Vcenter converter standalone apps to convert to VMDK files and imported them to WorkStation. The VMs are fine, connected, and looks good when I selected Firmware type as UEFI. However when I Changed to firmware type to BIOS it failing to load the "Operating system not found". I am guessing It is not a VMware issue, but I am wondering do we have any solution to work as BIOS in WorkStation or change to firmware type as BIOS in Hyper-v generation VM.

Collector running but no inventory - v2.4

Recently (last week) ditched an old and neglected collector for a shiny new 2.4 collector. It's been running since then, but still no inventory or findings.

 

The collector is registered, healthy, and associated. However when I get down to  vCenter under the collector's products, I see this:

 

 

Data for this product isn't available and processed yet. Please try again later.

 

 

This has been this way since installation I think. Any advice or next steps recommended?

Enforce incompatibility of SPBM

Hi, in our Virtual DC environment we have 3 vSAN clusters. One of those is a streched clusters and the other ones are Single Site clusters.

We need to prevent all users to assign storage policies with primary FTT = 0 in streched cluster. As these clusters are in the same vCenter, the policies are availabile on all datastores and clusters.

 

Is there any way to enforce the incompatibility of the storage policies in vSAN streched datastore, or to add any kind of warning before applying a Single cluster storage policy to a VM in the streched one?

RDSH app loading blank screen

When tried to access the RDSH apps via UAG, it shows blank screen in browser. When tried with Horizon client, it shows application loading and suddenly the Horizon client disappears. Anyone has seen this >?

Going From vSphere 5.1 to 6.7 (Maybe 7)

Wow, seems like forever since I have had a need to be here.

 

I have a vSphere 5.1 Enterprise + vCenter Server Standard (running on Windows 2012) environment that is, obviously, out of support.  The required DBs are also out of support on a 2005 SQL Server.  We have recently acquired some active licenses from another department in my organization that is currently using vSphere 6.0 but are retiring that environment and I have confirmed with our VMware reps that me and my department can take possession of that other department's licensing and us those to upgrade our vSphere 5.1 to to 6.7 or maybe even 7.  Going to 7 will depending on our backup vendor and if we want to go to a non-LTS version of their product (allowing us to go to 7) or still with the LTS we are running today meaning we can only go to 6.7U3.

 

Anyway, I have confirmed all of our hardware, host servers, HBAs, 10GB NICs, Storage etc are all on the HCL for both 6.7 & 7. 

 

Further I am not interested in historical data or doing multiple upgrades to get from 5.1 to 6.7 or 7.  So I will be building a brand new vSphere platform from the ground up.

 

Our current setup is mostly older VMs (Windows Server 200x) and running on 2 "Very Beefy" HP Proliant DL380 Gen 9 servers.  We have the capacity to run all VMs on just 1 host.

 

My plan is to put a host into MM and then remove it from the existing cluster.  Wipe it out and install ESXi 6.7 or 7 and install a new vCenter on Windows on that host. Once done and that new host is able to see all of our storage, I will removed all the VMs from inventory on the 5.1 host and add all the VMs to inventory on the new host/vCenter.  Then I will install from scratch 6.7 or 7 on that other host and add it to the new Cluster.  Then I will update all VM Hardware / Tools etc, setup HA, DRS again etc and apply the licensing that I am inheriting from the other department.

 

Does the plan make sense?  Any caveats or pitfalls to watch for?

vRA 8.1 - Docker Application Engine Won't Start

I am running the vRA 8.1 appliance, after a reboot the appliance seems to not want to start back up.  In the console window I am stuck with the following messages that continue to repeat:

 

[OK] Started Generate environment snapshot

[OK] Reached target Environment snapshot target

[OK] Stopped target Environment snapshot target

 

Then this pops up:

 

[****] A start job is running for Docker Application Container Engine (1h 5min 21s / no limit)

 

This process just runs and of course the time goes up each time the start job is running message shows up.  I can putty into the appliance and when I try to run any troubleshooting commands such as: kubectl get pods, I get the following error message:

 

The connection to the server vra-k8s.local:6443 was refused - did you specify the right host or port?

 

Can someone point me in the right direction on what I need to do to kick start the docker engine?

nsx-t intent-based policy api

Hi,

 

Have a question about the intent-based policy api.

When sending this "PATCH" request , nsx-t api check on syntax and some more stuff. If all is ok, you get a 200 OK

But that does not say anything yet about the realized-state.

Does anyone have some experience with checking the intent state vs realized state ?

I know you can do some api calls to realized state with intent path supplied, but that is only for 1 part.

 

i.e i sent an intent state to create, t1, segement, lb-pool, lb-vip and some security policies. How can i check if everything is created ? (without running true all individual

realized state calls.

 

In other words, how can i check if the intent is created. AWS uses task for it, you can check. But nsx-t api only returns "200 OK"

VM Sharing & Password Protection Solution

Hello!

 

I work for a small business that does technical support for machines.  We have a master Virtual Machine that we have installed the required software on, and then we copy the master VM to a technician's PC so that they are prepared to use it for technical support.  This makes it easier for us to manage the licensing and updates by only having to worry about the license management and updates for the base image, and then distributing the VM; rather than keep tabs on each technician's software updates and licenses. 

 

The VM is password protected, and that's how we make sure the technician isn't copying the virtual machine onto their personal computer and stealing the image.  But when it comes time to send out the updated virtual machine to all the technicians, or if the technician has issues with their VM and needs to replace it, management isn't always available to provide the password.

 

So, my question is this: rather than password protection, is it possible to configure the virtual machine to work on certain PCs?  Or does anyone have any creative solutions for how I can share the virtual machine without worrying about theft?

VRA 8 Deployment of VM with static IP ends up with network disconnected

Hi,

I'm trying to do a simple blueprint with Windows and cloudbase-init but struggles to get network connectivity when I try to use "assignment: static" and internal IPAM.

When I deploy the blueprint the deployed VM starts with the network disconnected, but in the OS it got an static IP.

If I choose "assignment: dynamic" it works just fine, why is that?

Need help with an issue after reverting vCenter back to a snapshot

Hey all,

I tried to install a couple of updates for JRE on a Windows vCenter server and while it stated that the update was not applicable/needed, it is crashing the vCenter GUI with a 503 error.

I reverted it back to the snapshot of the VM and while the GUI is now back, there was a warning for perflib in the Event Logs:

"The configuration information of the performance library "perf-MSSQL$VIM_SQLEXP-sqlctr11.2.5058.0.dll" for the "MSSQL$VIM_SQLEXP" service does not match the trusted performance library information stored in the registry. The functions in this library will not be treated as trusted."

 

Per the KB article, https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/1004149?lang=en_US&queryTerm=the+functions+in+this+library+will+not+be+treated+as+trusted. I tried to run

unlodctr "servername" - this ran fine and deleted the content and tried to run lodctr servicename.ini.

It is returning an error that the ini file does not exist. Now I am getting an error

"The Open Procedure for service "MSSQL$VIM_SQLEXP" in DLL "perf-MSSQL$VIM_SQLEXP-sqlctr11.2.5058.0.dll" failed. Performance data for this service will not be available. The first four bytes (DWORD) of the Data section contains the error code."

 

Am I missing something here as far as the ini file is concerned? I am running both the unlodctr and lodctr command under the Sytem32 directory as an admin.

VM stuck, powered off and consolidation fail

Hello

I have a virtual machine that shut down after consolidating the disks (failed), I was looking at the logs (vmware.log) and I can't determine why the VM failed and shut down. (there was an installation of vmware tools, after install the vm was turned off, its strange, (automatic install).

Using VUM for Windows Updates

We have a request to setup a new Windows machine without network connectivity.  But they also want to be able to patch the system if needed.

 

I thought that there was a way to use VMWare Update Manager to push Microsoft Windows Update.  However, I am unable to add the Microsoft repository to VUM, nor can I create a custom baseline for anything other than Appliances.

 

Can VUM be used to patch a windows guest?

Error Changing domain VCA appliance

Hi,

 

I am looking for some help understanding and issue I am having trying to add my test VCA appliance to a different domain. This is a test appliance and I need to understand this as I will need to do something similar in our production environment. Here is the scenario:

 

Appliance name: appliance.apples.com

Successfully added via cli to the apples.com domain

 

I successfully removed appliance.apples.domain.com from the apples.com domain and rebooted the appliance

I created a DNS record for the appliance on the bananas.com domain

I created a computer object in AD on the bananas.com domain

Via the cli, I renamed the host to appliance.bananas.com, I rebooted the appliance

VIA the cli, I attempted to join the appliance to the bananas.com domain

 

When I attempt to join the domain, I get the following error:

 

ERROR: lw_error_ldap_constraint_violation [code 0x00009dtb]

 

The account I am using is a domain admin on the bananas.com domain.

Disk consolidation fails with error Cannot complete the operation due to an incorrect request to the server.

Good Day Everyone

 

I have an ESX6.7 Host with VM on it that will not consolidate disks.  This VM was failing Veeam backups with the "Too many redo logs" error.  The VM is now showing Virtual machine disks consolidation is needed.

 

When I attempt to consolidate disks it fails with error "An error occurred while saving the snapshot: Too many levels of redo logs."

Snapshot manager shows no snapshots

I SSH into the host and there are 256 (at least) snapshot files named 000002.vmdk etc.

I tried to clone the disk and that fails with error "An error occurred while saving the snapshot: Too many levels of redo logs."

I tried to migrate the storage to another datastore thinking that should delete the snapshots but that fails with error "Cannot complete the operation due to an incorrect request to the server"

Any attempt Ive made to delete the files has run into one of these errors

 

Any assistance is greatly appreciated

How to get Path Policy and Perennial Reservations using esxcli

I would like to get the RDM Path Policy and Perennial Reservations using esxcli.

 

I tried the below commands

 

esxcli storage core device list  -- Perennial Reservations

esxcli nmp device get - -device div_id  -- Pathing Policy

 

But not getting exact values, can some one help me on it.

いつもお世話になっております。

表記の件についてご教示頂きたいと存じます。

 

AD(ドメインコントローラー 2台)、AD配下ワークステーション3台を

Vmware上に構築しております。

その際のNTPサーバとの同期についてお教え頂きたいと存じます。

 

色々とサイトを見ると「仮想化環境は時刻がずれやすい」と云う記載を見かけます。

AD(ドメインコントローラー 2台)はNTPの参照先を外部NTPサーバで同期し、

ワークステーションはADサーバ(ドメコン)と同期すれば問題無いのでしょうか?

 

「仮想化環境は時刻がずれやすい」と云う構成が解りづらく

どの様な場合この事象は発生するのでしょうか?

HAクラスタ環境でのWindowsServer2016の共有設定について。

いつもお世話になっております。

 

表記の件についてご教示ください。

HAクラスタ環境でWindowsServer2016を構築しております。

このサーバでファイル共有を設定しているのですが、時折ファイル共有設定が外れると

云う現象が発生しております。

 

人為的な(操作ミス等)事象では無いと考えておりますが

HAクラスタ環境(VMware)上でファイル共有を設定する際、ホスト側(ゲストOSの設定)

で何か特別な設定が必要なのでしょうか?
