Create MacOS 10.9 VM from a Macbook Air

$

Hello,

I have Fusion installed on High Sierra and another Macbook Air running 10.9.  I would like to run the OS (with all the software and data) from the Macbook Air as a VM in Fusion on High Sierra. Is there a way to create a VM from Macbook Air 10.9? I could use CCC to copy the OS 10.9 to an external HDD if required, and then import from there?

Thanks.

Billing with API and Keypairs

Hello

I am juggling between vrealize automation for our new private cloud and want to know if this would be suitable for billing for cloud customers. In addition am I correct in reading that Linux VMs can have ssh keys injected using the API

Syntax for Getting a Key Pair List

If using this will our billing system I am more than happy to have a module built but need to know if this would be possible to provide cloud virtual machines while allowing to charge customers for consumed resources.

VM MAC Conflict in vCD 9.0

Hi,

I got vCD 9.0 up and running in my lab and everything is working fine, but I am seeing VM MAC Conflict on all the VMs created by vCD.

As shown in the attached image.

How do I get this issue resolved?

Again, it is not causing me any problems with vCD, but still I'd like to know what is causing it and how to resolve it.

Thanks.

clusters must under same vlan setting for vxlan networking?

hi all

there is a doubt of the vxlan settings for cluters that,

I have two clusters, cluster A with vlan tag 123 and cluster B is using native vlan 0(still the vlan 123) as the switch infrastructure

only this vlan is utilized for my datacenter

(the virtual distributed switch also configured with a portgroup with vlan tag 123 for the cluster A,

and a portgroup with native vlan for cluster B)

the problem occurred when i was installing NSX for the datacenter,

i set the vxlan config. with vlan id 123 for cluster A and worked fine but...

when configuring cluster B's vxlan config. i set the vlan id into 0 (for native vlan),

the windows popped up error messages prevent me from finishing the vxlan setting:

"VLAN 0 can not be used. Other VLAN IDs are in use on the specified VDS"

does this mean my clusters infrastructure need to use same vlan configuration?

(i.e. all use same vlan tag or all use same native vlan 0)

or I just only need to configure vlan id into 123 for vxlan networking in cluster B to solve this error message?

won't that be any conflict on VDS?

thanks in advance

I upgrade vcenter to u1e and also hosts to u1e (build 7526125)

Most of my VMs are already tools upgraded but not VM hardware

how critical is it to upgrade the VM hardware right after u1e update?

32-bit Server 2003 VM problem after rebooting with VMTools

The following problem happened after restarting the 32-bit Server 2003 VM in VMware Workstation 14 Pro.

It was moved from another host machine. The VMTools is 10.0.12.4448491.

The login screen was normal after rebooting.

1. The network connection was failed after 3 PING reply.

2. There were the following errors in login.
userinit.exe - Application Error
The application failed to initialize properly (0x0000142).
Click on OK to terminate the application.

Loading your personal settings...
User Environment
Windows cannot load the locally stored profile.
Possible causes of this error include insufficient security rights or a corrupt local profile.
If this problem persists, contact your network administrator.

Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile.
Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log off.

It was normal to login in Safe Mode then.

It was successful to reboot this VM to the normal mode, just unchecking all the VMTools services and startup.

I have tried to remove the VMTools and then re-install it in Safe Mode.  The same errors were also faced.

Please help!

how to update template/ovf in content library

Hi there,

I'm trying to deploy Content Library in my vCenters but I'm facing a little problem.

I've "uploaded" all my VM templates in the CL and the deleted from my vCenter (to gain some space) but now, if I need to make a change to my VM template how should I proceed ?

Should I create a new VM from CL ? Export it to my local drive and the reupload in a datastore then inventory ? Another solution ?

Thanks you for your feedback and experience.

Hello,

I have a two ESXi hosts, they are both configured with a virtual distributed switch (called nsx-network)

I setup a CentOS7 vm (nsx-vm) connected with DPortGroup network.

Then I login the vm (nsx-vm). I try to configure a static IP for it.

22B20899-7548-46F6-A029-C37EC32A4164.jpg

In ifcfg-eno16780032 configure file, I wrote the configuration like below:

B8DB9089-62A9-4A81-90AC-AC21BBBBC003.jpg

Then I reboot the server, and check the static IP, but it not configuration.

22B20899-7548-46F6-A029-C37EC32A4164.jpg

When I run ifup, CentOS report error to me:

So the vm network card ,in distributed port group, can not be configured with static IP ?? or is there something I configured wrong here?

Could anyone help? please guide me a bit. Thanks in advance.

Attach AppStacks immediately (disabled)

$

Hey,

I've a pretty stupid question. I've used App Volumes with VMDK direct attach for a while. Now I had to build a new environment and I chose in-guest VHD attach.

Everything works fine, except for the immediate attach of AppStacks. This option is grayed out and has a "(disabled)" as a suffix.

So to me this looks like when using VHD in-guest attach immediate attach is not supported, but I cannot find this anywhere in the documentation.

Could someone please tell me if my assumption is correct and maybe even point me to the right doc?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Moving machines between Business Groups in vRA 7.3

$

Hello Team,

I am using vRA 7.3 for my new solution. We have got a requirement to move the machines across Business Groups. There are two BGs with in a tenant, (migration and Production Support). The provisioning and commissioning of the new VMs will be performed by the migration BG members. After the server is fully ready, the ownership/reservations all need to be transferred to the Production support BG. Once transferred, the users from Migration BG should not be able to access the servers .

Please could you suggest how can we do this  ? Also is there any way for automating the same ?  I have seen couple of articles from third party sites ? Can some one provide some VMware documentation around the same?

The display protocol for this desktop is currently not available!

Dear,

I'm currently using an VMware View v4.5 infrastructure which now out of the blue keeps on giving me a hard time in sense of connecting to several Windows XP and 7 based VM's. The 'Thin Client' and 'VMware View client' keeps on giving me the error message 'the display protocol for this desktop is currently not available' once I try to choose one of the proposed available VM's using PCoIP.

I really hope that somebody can help me out with this one 'cause I'm currently performing a small POC with 30 clients.....

Additionally I already tried this thread 'http://communities.vmware.com/thread/259692', but got an negative result....

Thanks for the help...

Fusion 8.5 - macOS Sierra 10.12 (GM) - MacBook Pro Camera Malfunction

$

I was waiting to report this until both Fusion 8.5 and the Sierra golden master were out, but the problem persists.

I have a Mid 2012 Retina MacBook Pro with a built-in FaceTime HD Camera (UVC Camera VendorID_1452 ProductID_34064).

After I start a virtual machine the camera cannot be turned on by any other application (FaceTime, Photo Booth, Skype).  The camera remains unresponsive even after shutting down virtual machines and quitting Fusion, until I reboot the MacBook.  If another app is using the camera when I start a Fusion VM, the camera continues to work until I close the other app, then it will not reactivate if I restart the other app.

Has anyone else experienced this?  Can anyone suggest a resolution?  I'm happy to provide more information if necessary.  Thanks!

Office 365 activation issues

$

Hi all,

We are having a lot of Office activation issues, we are using Windows 10 clients with Office 365 ProPlus, sharedcomputerlicensing is enabled within the Office installation.

Every day we have a lot of users that have to activate their office license but when they try to activate Office they do not  get a password prompt so the activation fails.

The workaround we have is to delete the local proflie and remove the personal certificates.zip from the UEM folder and logon again, the user can then activate office again.

The UEM version we are using is 9.2.0

We have added the following path to UEM to roam the license:

%localappdata%\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Licensing

The 2 license tokens in %localappdata%\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Licensing are exported without issues.

Does anyone recognize this problem?
