Hi,
Fresh install of VMware ESXi 6.0 (update02), vSphere client 6.
I am trying to install Windows 2012 server (SW_DVD9_NTRL_Windows_Svrs_2012_R2_English_2_FPP_OEM_Std_DC_X19-82429.ISO).
However I'm having a major problem where the console is not responding to either mouse or keyboard up/down, therefore I can't even select the install language.
I have tried boosting VM video memory to 128MB but that's made no difference.
The same thing happens on the esxi web-ui too.
I have no problems with, for example, the Ubuntu 16 installer, that works fine. Its only Windows Server.
Any ideas ???
Hi All,
In this article we will look into the alpha version of PowerShell v6 for both Linux and Windows. We will show how to execute PowerShell commands between Linux and Windows machines and Vmware vRealize Orchestrator (vRO)
We will also add a Linux PowerShell (PSHost) in vRO.

I have done some reading on these forums and others from people who want to utilize a GPU from their VM for various reasons. From what I gather, drivers cannot be installed due to the virtualization of graphics interfaces. I have been unable to find an answer to the question: How can VMware be configured to utilize a dedicated GPU in mobile (notebook) architectures? My understanding of the mobile architecture is that the Integrated Graphics frame buffers are used for all displays, and the NVIDIA card is used as an offloading engine.
Hello everybody,
I have a question about the vCenter Update Manager. I have successfully integrated the VIBs from HPE (https://vibsdepot.hpe.com/index.xml). When I now create a new host baseline as host extension I get a list of HPE VIBs that I can now tick and then deploy to my hosts.
My problem is that I don't know which VIBs I need?
I deployed my hosts with the custom VMware image from HPE. Now I only want to update all HPE driver and software parts. I don't want to install new ones that I don't need.
How do I only get the VIBs that just need an update and nothing more?

I recent upgrade my kernel on RHEL 6 to the latest 2.6.32-642 from RedHat. I can no longer run vmware.
the error message at the end of the log is: W115: failed to build vmnet. Failed to execute the build command
I have kernel-devel and kernel-headers installed.
the only other error I see in the log is relating to /lib/modules/kernelversion/build/include/generated/utsrelease.h
utsrelease.h exists, but not under generated/
Any suggestions?
I am receiving this error when trying to setup a protection group for single vms.
I have verified all connections ok and Time is synced across all devices.
Is there something I am missing ? I have configured one single vm for replication , but when I try to create protection group under site recovery it states it cannot connect to production site.
Hey Guys,
i heard a myth that the ESX can make a quadcore 3GHz work like a singlecore 12GHz. maybe its cause its shown like 12GHz power, but i dont think it works that way.
Can anyone confirm or bust the myth? in my opinion its still working like a normal quadcore but the resource usage is a bit better shared between the cores.
thx for your help
best regards
Dennis from Germany
Hi all,
I'm using VM Workstation 11.1.2 on a Windows 10 host. Since some updates I no longer have access to my shared folders.
Tried reinstalling the vmware tools, but no success. I also read quite a few posts here and on Google, but none seems to solve my issue.
The VM is a Ubuntu 15.10 with kernel 4.2.0-42.
When I try to reinstall the vmware tools I get the error below.
How do I solve this issue?
Thanks in advance.
Until recently, we had VDP 5.8.0 up and running here. (It was a 5.5.x before, upgraded to 5.8.)
Now I noticed that there already is 5.8.4 and wanted to upgrade to it. The upgrade ISO showed up as incompatible, so I guessed I needed to make smaller steps.
I upgraded our 5.8.0 to 5.8.1 without problems.
I also upgraded the 5.8.1 to 5.8.3 without problems.
The pre-upgrade kernel uprgade and glibc patch are both installed.
But the upgrade ISO for 5.8.4 still shows up as "The connected upgrade ISO image is incompatible.". What do I need to do to upgrade to 5.8.4?
Hey guys,
I have a requirement to place VM's on the correct hosts/storage depending on whether their hostname ends in an odd or even number.
Example:
A cluster split across two racks in the datacenter. The customer requires that odd and even VMs are kept on separate sides of the cluster. E.g Odd VMs on odd hosts and odd datastores.
Placing VMs on the correct hosts isn't an issue as DRS groups can be used. However I'm unsure of the best way to ensure that VM's are placed on the right datastores within the cluster.
In vRA we obviously have Storage Reservation Policies, however I need the correct to be dynamically assigned to VM during the request, based on the name of the VM.
I've been down this path before, but with reservation policies, and had to resort to using XaaS blueprints to submit the IaaS requests with the correct data. However this time it's not really a feasible option as the customer doesn't really have any in house vRA/vRO skills.. So leaving them with a complex / hard to manage solution isn't the best way forward.
Would appreciate anyone's input on this!
Thanks
Craig
Hello,
i am roll out a new vRO instance version 6.0.4. I am missing the Default eMAil Configuration in vRO configuration.
The "Configure mail" WF needs username/password - but we don't need this....
Is there a work around?
best regards,
Mike
Is it even possible to pass commands to a vm's console window? I'm looking at resetting a bunch of passwords on pfsense, which is two keystrokes after you open the a console window.. I get the strong feeling it isn't.. Only remote connections to vm is HTTPS, but we don't know all the passwords to the pfsense machines..
I have an Org. Admin that needs to boot some of his VMs with an OS already installed into a Live CD. Mounting the LiveCD ISO and rebooting the VM through the vCD UI will not work because the default boot options of the VMs are HDD then CD-ROM. Is there a way to force a boot to CD-ROM through the vCD UI or is my Org. Admin stuck creating a support ticket for me to change VM boot settings through vCenter?
FYI, my current work around is to:
Hi,
Any one please help me what could be the cause for the below issue.
I have one Window server 2008 R2 which is running vmware ESXi5.0 patch 3 update 12 with all latesh firmware and drives.
For an application activity I have rebooted the server. When it boots up 1 or 2 disks went offline automatically.
I have check out all logs from VMware end such as vmware.log, and event viewers in OS end but no luck.
Based on some articles, it says we need to SAN policy. But, other all servers running with default SAN policy then why it requires to change in this particular server.
Whether anything could cause VMware end and any suggestions please.
Please help me on this.
Thanks in advance.
I'm a VMware user, not an administrator and have a beginner question. At work, I have been given several directories. Each directory contains a .mf file, a .ovf file and two .vmdk files. What do I have? Are these VM's or are they virtual disks? I have access to ESXi and VMware Workstation. What do I need to do to access the information on those virtual disks?
I'm grateful for anyone going to the bother to explain what I need to do.
I have not been able to configure a Scheduled Task to shutdown my VMs on vCenter 6.0 U2. When trying to create a "Shut Down Guest OS" task, it behave just like a "Power Off" task. Even the GUI says it's going to create a "Power Off" task. VMware Tools is up-to-date on the VMs.
Is anybody else experiencing this issue (= is this a bug)? Follow below the screenshots of the issue:
Can someone help shed some light on the differences between the 2 items?
IF you use the external PSC in vsphere6, do you get the vIDM (Vmware Identity Manager) with that? I am looking at some vRA docs and it references the vIDM and being able to use that technology to extend federated services and SSO into things like o365, Azure, AWS, etc.
IS vIDM and the external PSC one in the same or is it a different product all together?
