Unable to open *.vmdk: Insufficient permission to access file

I just upgraded to v 9.0.2 build-1031769 and although 2 of my 3 VMs opened just fine, one would not -- it gave me this VMware Workstation dialog box:

n.b. I cannot seem to obtain support directly from VMWare via My VMware although my key was registered dec 2012 and frankly, the verbiage surrounding that matter is pretty discouraging, so hopefully this venue will be helpful.
