I have vSphere 4.1 and have a VM in datastore 1 that I want to move to datastore 2. I do not have a storage vmotion license, so I have to do this outside business hours. I am trying to create a series of scheduled tasks to perform the move, but after I create a task to shutdown the VM I tried to create another task to migrate it, but under "select migration type" change datastore is greyed out. It says storage vmotion is not licensed so the VM has to be powered off. Well, the VM is not powered off now, but it will be powered off at the time this scheduled task executes so it seems like this is a bug.
What I want to accomplish via scheduled tasks is:
1:00AM shutdown VM
1:05AM power off VM (to ensure the shutdown did not hang)
1:10AM migrate VM to another datastore
5:00AM power on VM (skipping some time to make sure it has had enough time to finish migrating to the new datastore)
How can I do this without needing to be awake from 1-5AM?
