IO issues VMs in one host

hi guys

I have a cluster made of 2 ESXi servers running build 1065491 for a month monitoring has reported me some issues with VMs - ping has been lost -

After that I found that VMs reporting losing pings were hosted in the same ESXi server. Today a issue was reported with the vCenter appliance which did not respond.... doing more research I found that all VMs hosted in that particular host were showing up this messages both Windows - Linux

source: LSI_SAS

Event ID: 129

Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort0, was issued.

source: disk

Event ID: 153

The IO operation at logical block address 142f8d for Disk 0 was retried.

kernel: [40114.926402] mptscsih: ioc0: attempting task abort! (sc=ffff8802116c3d80)

kernel: [40114.926410] sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] CDB: Read(10): 28 00 00 05 57 80 00 00 40 00

any idea what could be causing this issue? or how to fix it?

Important I moved one Windows 2012 VM from non-problematic ESXi server to the problematic one and LSI_SAS and disk messages started to show up

thanks a lot guys

RDS Physical Host; no local console

Hi, I have built a Windows 2019 Server RDS physical Host, connected to Horizon View 7.7 and it works well.

However, just as the documentation tells you, the local console is blacked out (you can see the mouse cursor only). It says for privacy reasons.

That's all nice and dandy but damm! I need to be able to 'locally' manage this machine. I have uninstalled the agent, removed the Session Host role, but still my screen is black.

Short of trashing the whole thing, how can I restore local video? I can RDP into the machine and see; just not local console.

Maybe a reg key of some sort to turn this 'feature' on and off as needed, or 'desired'

Please help.

ESXi to vsphere ESXi

Hi,

I have installed the ESXi Type 1 hypervisor on my server.

There are already VMs up running.

I'm missing features. I suppose I will get more features if I'm going to install vSphere.

In fact, all I wanna do is the scheduling task feature, to automatically snapshot my VMs.

Currently I have installed a free version of ESXi on my server.

How can I add the vSphere to it? (I have a license) Is it possible without reinstalling the hypervisor?

I have tried to install the vCenter appliance. But I can't do anything there. It just looks nice.

Please could someone help me?

It's for a school project.

SSO Error while upgrading Vcenter from 6.0 to 6.5 in windows with embedded PSC

Dear Community,

I am trying to upgrade our vcenter server on windows with embedded PSC from 6.0 to 6.5.

I am not able to proceed with the upgrade and I keep getting error message below:

"The remote vcenter SSO server is not reachable. Check the entered FQDN or IP address is correct, and the remote vcenter single sign on server is reachable on the specified port"

The vcenter has embedded PSC and SSO in the same machine.

Why is the upgrade process looking for SSO outside the machine when it is an embedded machine.

Any help in this regards will be appreciated.

Thanks

Hello

After upgrading my RHES 4 to the latest kernel release I noticed in the startup of my vm that he was showing an error on my vmware-tools.

The system said I had to reconfigure my vmware tools.  After doing that i rebooted the server and now he doesn't automatically start my eth0.  When i go to network setting and i start the mic my network recovers.

What can that be?

(Solved) VMDK file error

First of all, I would like to apologize for the horrible title. I just can't find a way to describe my problem as a title.

Now my issue is, I Have 4 vmdk files which are related to 1 drive. and by mistake, I have mounted the OLD vmdk file and marked it as independent. Now, when I looked at the files fromt hat drive. The contents were all old. So, I checked my vm settings and found  that I made the mistake. So, I tried to mount the latest VMDK file but unfortunately, its giving me an error and the virtual machine would not start. Is there a way to fix this?

Thank you in advance.

Storeport errors in Windows VM's

$

We have VMware 6.5 and we must add that not all of our machines are running the VMware tools 6.5

But most are.

On some machines we see storeport miniport driver errors event 153.

Which we thought where errors related to snapshots being taken and quesqing.

And this error would be caused by the virtual disk not being accessable.

It was also suggested that this is normal behavior, which i think it's not.

Also we did not always have these errors.

We also have some systems crash on us, noted these are appliances that do not have VMWare tools installed.

And seem to have a corrupted file system.

Stil just by not having VMWare tools installed should not cause them to crash, and they did not do so before.

Could it be that this problem is really a issue with the host HBA.

And how would we find out?

Unable to load module /usr/lib/vmware/vmkmod/vmfs3: Failure

Greetings!  I have seen similar problems reported in threads dated 2011 so I thought I better start a new one.

I am trying to install ESXi 6.0 U3 on a Proliant DL380 Gen7, which, according to the VMware compatibility guide should work:

I installed VMware-ESXi-6.0.0-Update3-9313334-HPE-preGen9-600.9.8.5.4-Sep2018.iso onto a USB 2.0 stick using Rufus and the installation proceeds fairly well:

Until, of course, the following happens after pressing F11 to agree to the EULA:

IMG_3973.JPG

This particular server has 4 x 1G Ethernet ports + the magic iLO 3.  I tried the process by having a good cable connected to both types (in an attempt to 'drive' the installer's attention to that socket) but the result was the same.

I opened the server and managed to get the details from the only Broadcom chip I could easily see: BCM5709CC0KPBG TN1149 P21 175676 P3

Would a kind soul enlighten this poor beginner?

Cannot connect to the internet. Network error on Vmware

Hi,

I have been using VMware for more than a year now and I have been using private wifi and public wifi. Never had any issues.

After the first 6 months of using VMware I wasn't able to connect to internet on my VMware PCs. So I changed the below-shown setting and it started to work again on all my VMware PCs.

All I did was change from Host-Only to Bridged

After another 3 months I wasn't able to connect to internet on my VMware PCs and this time it only happened when I was connected to public wifi on my host computer.

When connected to mobile data this doesn't happen.

I would really appreciate it if anyone could provide me with a solution for this concern.

Thank you

Kind regards

Custom Roles or Permissions

$

We are running a VMC instance that is not tied to any on-prem servers.  It is joined to an LDAP/AD structure for users.

I'm struggling with the permissions as I can't see to get a single user account with all the rights I need.

I can assign a user as the CloudAdmin role OR the CloudGlobalAdmin role but I need my user to have the permissions of both (at the same time).  Also, we have junior admins that need custom permissions but I'm not able to set that either.

Documentation does discuss the CloudAdmin vs CloudGlobalAdmin but not how create a custom role.

Using vAPI endpoint in vRO to deploy an OVF from Content Library

$

I have been testing two methods of deploying an ovf from vRO 7.2 in a vCenter 6.5. This would be used in conjunction with a workflow that would deploy many similar vm's from the same ovf for a testing environment.

First method is using the OVF Transfer plugin - I have this working and it looks pretty handy and does everything I need it to.

The Second method would be to use the vAPI Endpoint method to deploy ovf from the content library.

I am finding it hard to understand how to get the vAPI method working or to find any blogs examples or how to's on this

I have added my vAPI endpoint in vRO and imported the vAPI metamodel.

Am looking at below example but having difficulty extraction what I need to get a working workflow.

Has anyone been able to do this or anything similar. I could always use the OVF plugin but am curious about the possibilities of a new method of doing this and other tasks. Not looking for completed workflows or anything just a point in the right direction of how to. Also general information/opinions/experiences from anyone who has used either method

Adding Active Directory Integration to vRealize Lifecycle Manager 2.0

Hello all,

In case anyone finds this useful, I made a blog post describing how to role out the VMware Identity manager with Lifecycle Manager.

It contains a bunch of troubleshooting and 'cotcha' items.

Adding Active Directory Integration to #vRealize Lifecycle Manager 2.0 #vExpert #vRSLCM #vLCM – The Fluffy Admin

I also added a second blog post, specifically on some issues I had with the 'hostname' field of the vIDM appliance:

Adding vIDM to vRLCM Organization not Found

$

I have a vRA 7.3.1 instance that we use as the vIDM for all our vIDM supported products. Id like to use this vIDM for vRLCM as well. On the user management page i put in the Active Directory information that includes the service account that we use to do user binds and the OUs that contain all the users and groups we want to use with vRLCM. I then specify the vIDM hostname as the FQDN of the load balancer VIP for my production vRA environment and ive tried a slew of UN/PW combos for administrator, administrator@vsphere.local, domain joined service accounts, etc with none of them working. I continually get the error "com.vmware.vrealize.lcm.common.exception.LcmException: Failed to get admin token: Organization not found." error. I'm not sure if this is an LDAP error or an issue with my vIDM. I'm honestly not sure what version of vIDM vRA 7.3 includes so that could be an issue too. Anyone out there get this to work? Anyone see this error and work around it?
